2015 Lexus Gx 460 Off Road
The 2015 Lexus GX460 is a comfortable luxury SUV, but it's also focused on exceptional off-road performance. It offers adjustable height suspension, low range 4×4, and Crawl Control. So, how do all of these technologies work together to enable the GX to traverse difficult terrain? This is a good excuse to take the Lexus to an off-road park and try it out.
The Crawl Control is basically a cruise control for off-roading, and it works only at very slow speeds (under 5 mph). The vehicle must in 4Lo setting. With the GX in neutral transmission setting, put the 4WD system into 4Lo. Push the Crawl Control "on" button on the center console, and use the toggle switch to increase or decrease your speed. This system also incorporates Hill Descent Control. It means you can take your foot off the gas or brake pedals and focus solely on the steering. If you are getting into trouble, you can also press on the brake pedal and bring the GX to a complete stop. You can also disengage the system by pressing the Crawl Control "off" button on the center console.
When Crawl Control is operating and you are using the switch to speed up or slow down, you will likely hear some noises from the drivetrain and traction control system is trying to figure things out. These noises are a little odd, but they are normal. Lexus owner's manual says so.
This system works well and is becoming more popular. Toyota is putting a version of it into the all-new 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
